VEGANUARY: WHAT IS IT?

By definition, veganism is the way of living without any animal exploitation or cruelty at all. Nowadays, people think twice about their purchases when it comes to food and drinks, as well as clothes, accessories and make-up.

Why are people becoming vegan? There are three main reasons, let’s take a look:

For the animals: Eating plant-based means stopping eating animals, obviously. However, veganism includes avoiding clothes made from animals such as wool, leather or silk and using cruelty-free make-up products, not tested on animals. Driven by the love and care for animals, people take part in a vegan lifestyle to lobby against animal cruelty.

For health: Following a vegan diet involves eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, which have been proven to have a significant positive impact on health. Veganism has been scientifically linked with improving health by lowering blood pressure and cholesterol.

For the planet: We have known this for a few years and multiple studies show that each vegan citizen considerably reduces their ecological impact: reduction of greenhouse gas emissions used to produce feed for livestock, reduction of deforestation, exploitation of oceans, and much more.

In order to encourage and educate people about this new way of living, a UK non-profit organisation has introduced Veganuary: it is a challenge that motivates people to follow a vegan lifestyle during the month of January.

It is a chance for people to try a new way to live!

VEGANISM IS ON THE RISE!

Nowadays, being vegan doesn’t mean eating only fruits and vegetables. We can notice an important innovation in vegan food, bringing out a lot of alternatives to animal products: plant-based steaks, dairy-free cheeses, or even meatless meatballs, yes! There are so many options in vegan food, so you will never get bored!

Here at Happy, we welcome everybody, meat-lovers and vegans alike! In order to take part in this challenge, we have been promoting some vegan dishes available on our everyday food menu such as our fresh avocado garden salad, homemade guacamole and mouth-watering vegan burger.

We know January is coming to an end, but at Happy we want to ensure there is something for everyone. So keep your eyes peeled for our new vegan menu launching very soon!
